It is true that short selling your home is going to have a negative effect on your credit. Though the lender is not taking away your home, you are selling the home of your own after negotiating with the lender, it shows your inability to make the payments, and thus, your credit gets hurt after the short sale.

With a short sale, the credit score can lower by 200 to 300 points. It is deemed to have the same effect on your credit just as the foreclosure.

3 Way To Improve Average Credit Score After Short Sale

There are various ways in which you may be able to improve your credit after the short sale. You will have to follow some real strategic steps or tips in order to better your credit within few months or at least a year. The better you will be able to make your credit, the better will be your option to get new credit or to buy a new home.

However, recovering from the impact of the short sale is not that tough as it is from the impact of a foreclosure. So, what are the things that you need to follow in order to improve your credit after the short sale of your home.

1) You may be able to improve your credit by making the on-time payments on the credit accounts that you already have. The greatest part of your credit depends on the payment history. So, this is going to help you in improving your credit eventually.

2) You will have to obtain a secured credit card in order to improve your credit. A secured credit card is much easier to get as it is actually backed by collateral.

The prepaid credit cards and the secured credit cards are different and so it is important to not confuse these two types. You will have to use the secured credit card in the right way and then make the payments on time. However, before you take out a secured credit card, make sure that the creditor reports to all of the three credit bureaus, otherwise your credit may not improve even with the timely payments.

Don’t overuse the card and never miss payments on the card.

3) In addition to taking out a secured credit card, another thing that is extremely important for you to do is making on-time rental payments (if any), payments on electricity and so on. Though these do not get easily reported onto your credit reports, if you miss payments and if these are handed over to collection agencies they may eventually end up listed on your credit reports. You may not want to further hurt your credit, right? So, go on making the on-time payments on these too.

Furthermore it also becomes important for you to check your credit report from time to time in order to avoid any payment mistakes, or even any kind of wrong listings on your credit report.

Bankruptcy. There are few words in the English language that can send people into a panic faster. To most, it means the loss of a house or business (not to mention pride and self-worth) as well as the more common side effect of financial ruin.

It means starting at the bottom, scraping by, and reverting to a state of no credit (or worse). However, it also signifies a blank slate. It is a chance at a new beginning, one without the burden of debt, and believe it or not, you can come back from the brink of disaster and improve your credit after declaring bankruptcy.

So where do you start?

A good place to begin is by figuring out what went wrong.

Were you simply overspending or living beyond your means?

Was the problem a loss of income without a commensurate scaling back of expenditures?

Did you just face a number of unexpected bills that undid your careful financial planning?

Whatever the case, you’ll either need to change your behavior or try to account for unknown factors in the future by setting up a budget and a savings. You can also plan for emergencies by purchasing the proper insurance and keeping it up to date.

Once you have set up a plan to marshal your spending habits, the next step in rebuilding your credit is to get a credit card and use it. At this point it’s really the best (and possibly only) way to boost your credit score.

You can start with a secured credit card.

If you don’t know what this is, it’s a card that requires, as the name implies, security. You will have to put money down in order to use the card, and here’s how it works. You can often get a secured line of credit through your bank, which will issue a card in the amount of money that you provide for them to hold as collateral.

For example, you give them a check for $1,000, which they take out of your account and hold for a set amount of time. You are then issued a credit card with a $1,000 limit, which you use as a normal card, making purchases and paying them off. Since you are a credit risk, the lender knows that they can always collect if you don’t pay (as they already have your money).

At the end of the contract (generally one year), your security deposit will be returned to you with interest and you can either continue to use the card unsecured, or cancel the account. But before you go for security, see if you can qualify for an unsecured card.

You never know what you’re eligible for unless you check.

Finally, once you’re earning credit again, you’ll want to go back and clean up your credit report.

Unfortunately, you’re going to be stuck with the bankruptcy for awhile. But that doesn’t mean you can’t tie up other loose ends, such as open disputes.

If they should have been wiped out from your bankruptcy claim, you need to make sure they’re listed that way on your credit report so that new lenders don’t think you’re already defaulting on new debts or you current debts that were not cleared by your bankruptcy (which could seriously damage your ability to apply for future credit). Your diligence in this matter will ensure that you actually get any benefits that bankruptcy may offer, since you will certainly suffer the downfalls.

Did you know that life doesn’t end just because you have bad credit?

In the quest to get ahead — destination often unknown — it’s easy to have life’s challenges overwhelm you like a tsunami. This article is intended as a reminder and a manifesto: Life Goes On, Just Plan Better.

This is written by Elysabeth Teeko, whose uncontrollable urge to buy every new gadget on the planet.

Enter Elysabeth.

##

Bad credit sometimes make people pass judgment on you- think that maybe you were somehow irresponsible in your life, or that you can’t be trusted with money.

None of that is true. Also, if you have bad credit, it should be nobody’s business except you and possibly your spouse.

So what do you do when you need to get things done, but just don’t have the credit available, or cash in hand? Here’s some tips that I’ve found effective for people with Not-So-Great Credit (let’s continue to call it that, shall we? Instead of bad credit!). Some of these may be targeted towards the single lady/gentleman, and some are targeted towards the married or dating couple.

Can You Still Eat Out At Red Lobster?

Going out to dinner is one of the most common, fun and relaxing things to do- for bonding both with a potential date, or already existing family. Nothing is more frustrating then getting out there and realizing dinner is kind of expensive and you can’t afford it.

Well, lucky for you, there are plenty of website where you can find restaurant deals. You can purchase a gift card at a discounted price- the only stipulation is you have to spend a certain amount at dinner. Not too shabby right? Right.

You can find restaurant coupons that give you special deals and discounts, as well as gift certificate deals for not only the restaurants, but also leisure activities, retail shopping, etc. Take these with you and you won’t have to be embarrassed about not having enough- in the instance that everyone wants to order lobster!

Do Holiday Gifts Have To Put You In The Poor House

Another instance where you may feel the need to get a new credit card (but you probably can’t because you have no-so-great credit) is during the holiday season. This won’t matter as much If you don’t have kids- I’m sure your significant other understands that you can’t spend a lot of money on them at Christmas time.

Children don’t get this. At all.

Therefore, it’s important to at least get them a few things that they asked for. Nobody really looks through physical ads anymore. They are usually outdated by the time you scrounge around the house and find them. If your kids have something in particular that they are asking for, start scavenging different websites.

Do they want a motorized scooter? You can search on websites, such as Dealighted, where you can browse per store to find deals and coupons they are offering… at exactly that minute. For both online and offline shopping.

Last, but not least- this is a big investment but it can pay off in the long run.

Buy Real Estate To Pay Off Your Credit Cards?

One thing that hinders improving your credit, is the fact that you may not have a low enough debt to credit ratio. You can improve this by getting a new credit card… but again, that’s not always the easiest thing to do with not-so-great credit.

If you have family, or maybe even a willing spouse, investing in real estate is a great way to get extra income and pay off all your old cards. Investing in a duplex will even allow you to live in one side and rent out the other. If there are improvements that need to be made before a tenant can move in to one side, you can always lend out a helping hand by getting unsecured personal loans that don’t do an extensive credit check or take forever.

Once these improvements are done, you can start making money and paying off your cards. Then, when you want to start paying your trusted family member or spouse back, you can start using the rent from the other tenants to do that. This only works out if you have a wealthy family, but I thought I would throw it out there

Getting help buying fixer-uppers or foreclosed houses can increase your revenue stream immensely and also give you free cash flow to take care of any bills you may have outstanding.

I hope these help! Remember, your credit is nobody’s business. There are ways to live your life so that your credit isn’t the first thing a person sees.

[19 minutes - 8.9 mb]

Have you ever seen advertisements from companies stating affordable credit repair? They will do everything for you.

A few years ago, I even referred a few clients to a guy who said he could help them. He did help them. He was able to improve their credit score for a fee of a couple hundred dollars.

Since then I’ve learned there is a better way. However, it takes doing a four letter word that most people don’t like. That word is called W O R K.

One of my recent clients, who is a doctor, had a low credit score of 599. Why? Because he missed one car payment. How? His car payments were attached to a credit card that had passed the expiration date.

He was hit extremely hard.

It is very difficult for a home buyer to purchase a home nowadays with a credit score below 630.

I gave my client a couple of resources and told him that he could increase his credit score himself. Even with his busy schedule, he scheduled the time to improve his credit. After making phone calls, sending letters, submitting online forms, then finally paying off and shredding his credit cards… he was able to increase credit score by 90 points.

You may have gotten into credit problems quickly and easily, yet you won’t get out of it overnight.

As of today, knock on the wood, I have never had bad credit. I personally never had to fight my way out of it, but I found someone who has. His name is Chris Brisson, author of “37 Days to Clean Credit.” Brisson took time out of his busy schedule to spend a few minutes on my radio show to discuss what made him say, “Enough-Is-Enough… it is time for a change!” Have you ever felt that way before?
